8vo. 595 pp. Original brown cloth binding. This book is Dr. Gilchrist's personal copy. Attached to the front pastedown is his bookplate. Dr. James G. Gilchrist (1842-1906) was one of the major surgical homeopaths of the late 19th century and wrote and published extensively on homeopathy. Onto the verso of the front free endpaper is a three page ALS written on University of Michigan letterhead and dated April 16, 1880. It is from Dr. James B. Angell, President of the University of Michigan, the dedicatee of this book. It is to Dr. Gilchrist, thanking him in the warmest language for dedicating the book to him. ". . .Sincerely, my dear Doctor, I do not know what I have done to deserve this honor from you. . ." In addition to being signed by Angell, the letter, next to his signature, also is signed by Gilchrist. Importantly, this book contains well over 100 hand corrections, emendations, and notes throughout the text by Gilchrist, who, undoubtedly was preparing for a further edition of this greatly enlarged third edition. On the second front endpaper Gilchrist has written 10 specifics of "Notices of the press" of this book. The book has wear along the spinal gutters and extremities; the interior is bright. A very good book which, in itself, is normally very uncommon, but, as such, is of singular importance.. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover
